I have tried a normal segment right for my lip and had too much trouble getting the segment in and out so I had went back to my circular barbell. When I found the hinged ring I was excited. It popped open pretty easily but was quite a bit tough to get in since there is a hollow section for the hinge to latch closed. Once it was in it closed up pretty easily, it seems really hard to open once it's on my lip though. It's definitely much easier and beginner friendly that a segmented ring is though.
The only real flaw seems to be that the hinge can sort of snag the inside of my piercing which hurts. It doesn't seem to happen much but it is a bit annoying. I still find the little snag it does sometimes not much of a problem since it's much easier to open and close.
If you're a beginner to piercings I would recommend this. If you can deal with normal segmented rings though that would definitely be your better option. Worth the buy!

The hinge on this is a little bit hard to work, just because you pull back and up to open it. The hinged segment has a little peg on it that you have to clear on opening and get back in the hollow receiving tube upon closing. Which can be a bit rough, I bent the ring out of shape trying to get it to work. The plus side is the opening from the hinge is rather large. To be fair, I haven't had a lot of experience with hoops, so it might be a finesse skill. Over all its a nice hoop and has a great look, its thin and delicate.
