A scaffold piercing consists of two ear cartilage piercings connected by one long barbell. Scaffolds are usually placed at an angle across the top of the ear but can be placed at any angle that shape of the ear will allow.
Long straight barbells are typically worn in scaffold piercings but the piercing can also be done with two separate bars and connected later. If this is done it is important that the piercings are angled correctly. If the angles are incorrect undue pressure will be placed on the ear when the two piercings are connected. If you wish to wear a long barbell in your scaffold piercing straight away, a PTFE or Bioplast barbell is recommended. Both materials are flexible and place less stress on the piercings. This piercing should be cleaned at least twice daily with saline solution. Avoid swimming and submersion in water until healed.
Scaffold Piercing Healing Time: 8 to 16 weeks
