Zit on my nose piercing?? (Pictures included please help)
Hey guys,
I got my nose pierced about 3 weeks ago. Everything was fine until yesterday it looked like I was developing "the dreaded bump". I started warm salt soaks but today it has increased twice its girth and is very raised up and horrid looking... It is filled with pus I believe, it looks like a huge nasty whitehead zit on my piercing.
I'm of course quite upset about this... my piercings are supposed to make me look better not worse!
My questions are---Is it a zit? Or just severe irritation? I've been unconsiously sleeping on it a bit... I rarely ever touch it, only to clean it, I use h20 spray and antibacterial soap to clean it every day. It's been really good until now... It looks awful.
I tried including pictures but since I just joined it won't let me...which I find silly, because pictures really help. I've been researching this for 2 days straight and keep wishing there were pictures to compare to other people's nose bumps! I know it's not a keloid, I know what those look like...but what the fuck is this?
I don't know what to do. Should I try popping it? I'm assuming no...though I really want to. Is this normal? If so----How long will it be here for? I'm really self conscious right now.
Thanks,
Cara

well...you should stick with the salt soaks just to be safe, but if it is a hypertopic scar bump, then it wouldn't be filled with pus.
i was told, however, by a very respectable piercer that h2ocean was actually a terrible idea. it has preservatives and every time you spray it, you are sucking air into the can, which is bad.
the best thing to do is non-ionized salt and water, like an actual saline solution.
...yeah.

Hey Cara,
Suprisingly, I had my nose piercing for 3 weeks, then developed a bump too.
Usually, this 'bump' is hypertrophic scarring, a build up of scar tissue in a redish coloured bump right next to the piercing.
It's caused (usually) by the piercing being knocked or irritated for some reason.
Now, these can be a pain to get rid of, but if you're consistant with cleaning, they should go away gradually.
I use very warm Sea Salt Soaks (fill a clean glass, dip nose in glass for 5 mins), but recently I've just started using very warm water.
I find the salt can get irritating to the piercing (and the surrounding skin!) after awhile.
I've had my bump for just over 1.5 weeks, and it's NEARLY gone.
Just be patient.

EDIT:
By the way, don't pop it!!! Don't touch it either, only if you have clean hands and you're cleaning it.
I know it looks gross and it is quite embaressing (I hate people thinking I can't heal piercings, or look after them properly, ugh) but just keep up the cleaning and be patient.

Ah, thank you guys, I've been soaking it the past couple of days and although not diminishing yet, it does seem to be drying up a little which I think is good...as before it was quite boily.
Chelsea_Monster: I've always heard very good things about H20... Hmm... I don't know how it would suck air back into the can, but I'm going to continue using it for now because A) it was expensive and B)I don't think it was the cause of the boil. The cause I'm quite sure was me being dumb and sleeping on my face when I shouldn't have.
Thank you everyone--Will let you know if it gets worse or better and how long, etc. Babyloo i'll pick up some chamomile as well. I hope your bump goes away. I hope everyone's bump goes away!! F-ing bumps.

Hope you manage to get rid of the bump, it will go soon...
if it's filled with pus, then it's gone a bit infected, so just try to use warm water with as little salt in as poss to draw the stuff out, and don't pop it, it doesn't really help, as nothing seems to come out (says me who stuck 7 pin holes in one of my last bumps, just makes it damn sore)..
Really, once it's gone, i'd try the leaving it the hell alone method.. i've found that the best way, I had mine done 13 years ago (eek) and with a gun too and no cleaning guides were offered then.. lol
Out of all the people I know, mine has healed the best as I just left it well alone, and cleaned any crusties from around it with a warm water soaked cotton bud..

I saw my piercer tonight, and am now even more confused and worried than I was before. She tells me it's a keloid--- not a boil. But it was filled with pus, and came on in the matter of a dayand a half? How does scar tissue happen that quickly and why would it be filled with pus and blood?
She sold me this stuff called keloidal silver, it is a spray with silver microns in it. Can someone tell me what it is this does and how? (Iwill research it as well anyway). I was just so in shock that she said it was a keloid I was like 'fuck okay i'll buy anything just make it go away".
I think I really should post a picture of this thing, it'd be easier for people here to diagnose it... I better go get my post count up. =P
Thank you so much for all of your information thus far though--- I'm just scared if it is a keloid...how do I get it to go away.

Hmmm, now i'm not a professional piercer of claim to have any confirmed knowledge...
But I find it hard to believe that it is a Keloid... as they are not common and will grow beyond the area of the piercing...
it is possible for Hypertropic (sp) scars to be filled with pus, bleed or generally be itchy.. mine have done that a few time.. lots of salt soaks and the occasional antibiotic cleared it up..
Try and post some pics up..Piercings
