Ear Lobe Stretching, need advice
First off, hello all, Ive been looking through the site for a few weeks now, and have decided to carry on with my stretching

Im only starting off, so Im still at the small sizes, but I dont want to rush it.
I have just gone from a small 18 Gauge, to a 14 Gauge.
My question is, is that now I am starting to get to the bigger sizes, I have been watching many tutorials and 'how to' guides on the net. All of which seem to tell me different things from one to another :(
So far I have not used a device, aka the Taper. All I have done is baically buy my sizes in the ear ring/bar so 18 & 14, apply loads of anti bacterial stuff and squeeze it in.
Do I have to use a taper? at what size should I be using one? Tapers I have seen, seem to start real small and get real big, and I understand I have to feed it all the way through, but cant see how this is possible yet?
say in a few weeks when I need to go for the 12 Gauge, can I just do what I have done so far and go out and buy the ear ring and slot it in, and so on for the bigger sizes.
Basically any advice anyone has for me I would appreciate it.
I'm not looking to go toooo big, Im looking to prob get to about a 4 or a 2 gauge.
Thanks for looking!

A taper is basically a device to ease the next size in.
You should buy the next size up, say if you are at 14g you would buy a 12g.
Although I didnt use tapers til about 10g.
You don't have to use tapers, you can just "dead stretch".
Which is basically waiting til your lobe is loose enough to slot the next size in.
Like you have been doing.
When doing this it is often easy to buy rounded glass plugs, they are easier to insert.
Instead of using antibacterial soap I would say invest in some water based lube, if you dont have any around that is.
Also a good thing to start is oil massages on the lobe/s.
This helps keep them moisturised and improve their stretchy-ness!
You can use Vitamin E/Emu/Jojoba oil. Any works fine.
Hope that made more sense for you.
Good luck.
Now: 8mm lobes. 3mm septum. double conch. 3mm helix.
2nd & 3rd lobes. 2.4mm tongue. lip. 3 tattoos.
Next: conch punch or vert industrial. nipple/s. tattoos.

Should give you a lot of info. To help you on your way quickly:
You already went wrong and skipped 16 gauge(1.2mm), go one size at a time, with 6-8 weeks between stretches.I have just gone from a small 18 Gauge, to a 14 Gauge.
What you have done is dead stretching(not using taper just inserting the next size jewellery) this is fine as long as the jewellery goes in easily, sometimes the jewellery may not go in so easy as your ears might not have loosened up enough.
This is when a taper comes in, you say they start thin and get thick and you dont see how to get this through your ear yet, well your probly looking at a very big taper, you buy the taper equivalent to the next size jewellery:
If you are at 16 gauge and are going to stretch to 14 gauge - you buy a 14 gauge taper, it will start at 16 gauge at the thin end and will gradually increase in diameter up to 14 gauge at the fatter end.
You lube it up using ky jelly or another water based lube (i use durex play sex lube) then slowly feed the taper through your ears, if you feel pain dont force it, just stop and then wait a week or so and try it again until the taper passes right through with ease, the most you should feel is a little bit of tightness around the taper, there though be no sharp pain or bleeding involved.
When the taper gets level with ear, follow it through with new jewellery. Keep the jewellery in your fresh stretches for a few days. Also keep to good quality materials for your jewellery, titanium or glass are best (glass feels very nice) stainless steel is good too.Last edited by TheArctopus; 05-17-2008 at 08:31 PM.

You don't have to use tapers if your ears are stretchy enough on their own and you wait a long time between each stretch. 6 weeks is a good minimum but longer is always better.
If you'd rather not use tapers, don't. Stretch with rounded-end jewellery (nothing externally threaded!) - single-flare glass plugs are perfect, or CBRs at smaller sizes. Use lots of lube (actual lube is better than 'antibacterial stuff', get some!). Most importantly, never force it. If you do have difficulty getting the jewellery in, wait another 2-3 weeks and try again. If it's still hard, try getting a taper to help guide the jewellery in.

Thanks dude for your quick reply
Is it best to take them out every few days and let the lobe rest? and then maybe massage sum oil onto the lobes?
I was scared when I seen the taper and people recommending you use it from the start.

It's easier to take the jewellery out when you do oil massages, yeah.

Do you understand tapers come in many sizes? you dont just buy a massive taper and push it through, a small taper should not frighten you as it will only be as big as the next piece of jewellery you are to insert
dont get confused and go buying a 0 gauge taper and ramming that in there.

thats cause there is not much to see when pushing a teensy 2.4mm taper through your ear :P
Goodluck with your stretching卍 Pierced, Punched, Stretched and Scarified 卍
