An ampallang piercing passes horizontally through the glans, either above or below the urethra. Ampallangs can also be pierced through the urethra and are known as a "transurethral ampallang". This piercing is commonly considered one of the most painful male genital piercings. Comfort during sex varies from man to man so consult an experienced piercer before getting an ampallang piercing.
Straight barbells are used in an ampallang piercing. It is important to measure the glans when erect and flaccid to make sure that your jewellery is the correct length. Ampallang piercings can migrate due to irritation during sex but a good placement should be able to compensate. The piercing should be kept cool, clean and dry - we recommend wearing breathable, unrestrictive underwear and abstaining from sexual activity until fully healed. Clean with mild soap and water or saline solution daily and avoid swimming or submersion in water until healed, taking showers rather than baths.
