Stretching your Septum Piercing

Wednesday, July 15th, 2009

The key to stretching your septum piercing is time and patience. Your body tissues need time between each stretching stage to adjust, heal and grow new cells. For large gauge septum piercings, many choose to wear flesh tunnels and flesh plugs as they don’t weigh the tissue down, which is helpful in the healing process. This also allows for the piercing to not be damaged by the sudden movement of the body jewellery, whilst being hidden discreetly for everyday wear.

Stretching your septum piercing will be the same stretching process that is involved for any other piercing, taking care to stretch only as far as it is comfortable without tearing or damaging your septum tissue.

Septum Piercings

The septum piercing, also known as a bull ring, is less common than nostril piercing. The nasal septum is the dividing wall between the two nostrils. Generally, the cartilage itself is not pierced, but rather the small gap between the cartilage and the bottom of the nose, typically at 14ga (1.6mm) although it is often stretched to a larger gauge.

Nostril Piercings – What to Avoid

Wednesday, July 8th, 2009
  • Do not get your nose pierced with a piercing gun – piercing guns are not sterilized properly and carry a risk of serious infection. They also cause unnecessary trauma to the tissue as the jewellery is very blunt and often too tight. This increases your chances of infection, keloids and scarring. (more…)

Types of Nose Piercings

Tuesday, June 30th, 2009

One of the longest standing piercing modifications is the nostril piercing. Nostril studs and nostril rings, worn both in the curve of the nostril or through the septum are found in cultures all around the world.

The most common place for piercing the nose is through the curve of one of the nostrils. Placement can be anywhere along the nostril, depending on the preference of the wearer. Nostril piercings are healed with either a hooked nostril stud (nostril screw) or a nose ring. Nose rings can be chosen depending on personal preference – from ball closure ringscircular barbells, smooth segment rings or open nose rings.
